WINTER PARK , Fla.
(February 16, 2006) Tars coach Jon Sjogren gave his former squad a
proper welcome Thursday night, as his Tars handed the Bryant
Bulldogs a 3-1 loss. The Tars (7-4) turned five Bryant (0-4) errors
into three runs. Those three runs turned out to be plenty for the
Tars staff. Juniors David Nathanson (1-0) and Jon Wano combined for
a six hit, one unearned run performance.
'
The
win was particularly gratifying for coach Jon Sjogren as it was the
first meeting with the club he managed for the last 15 seasons.
Over those 15 seasons, Sjogren led the Bulldogs to 360 wins.
'
Junior shortstop, Ryan McKenzie had the Tars only RBI. McKenzie was
0-3 with a RBI ground out in the second inning. Junior third
baseman, Gene Howard was 1-4 with a run scored. Freshman designated
hitter, Ryan Maddern was 1-4 with a run scored. And freshman
Anthony Soto was 1-3. Rollins was out-hit in the game by the
Bulldogs, 6-5.
'
Starting pitcher, David Nathanson had yet another solid outing for
the Tars. The junior struck out eight batters over seven innings of
work. He allowed only six hits, mostly on the infield, and one
unearned run on the evening. Nathanson was able to lower his ERA to
a stingy 1.43. Jonathan Wano worked the eighth and ninth innings
for his first save on the season. He struck out three and walked
none.

The
Tars will be back in action Sunday, February 19, when they will
welcome Saint Thomas to Alfond Stadium for a double header. First
pitch is scheduled for noon.
