WINTER
PARK, Fla. (February 1, 2006) ' The Rollins College softball team
(2-0) opened their 2006 campaign by winning both games of a
doubleheader against Webber International (0-4) on Wednesday
evening. The Tars dominated both games and came away with a 9-0 win
in game 1 and an 8-0 victory in game 2.
'
In
the first game, Nicole Anderson (Brandon, Fla.) had a superb
opening to her collegiate career in the circle for the Tars,
throwing a no-hitter and allowing only two walks in five innings.
She faced 16 batters and struck out nine. On the offensive side for
the Tars, the two seniors, Kallie Jo Jones (Chandler, Okla.) and
Kelly Cruz (Winter Springs, Fla.), showed their experience by
hitting their first homeruns of the season. Jones finished the game
2-2 with three RBI, while Cruz went 2-3 with five RBI. Jones
knocked her two-run homerun over the fence in the third inning for
the Tars while Cruz's came in the fourth inning with the bases
loaded. The Tars finished the game with 10 hits and no errors in
five innings of play. Senior Kayla Palmer was the losing pitcher
for the Warriors, allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs.
'
The
second game saw more of the same as the Tars used the pitching of
sophomore Ingrid Schumacher (Naples, Fla.) to put out the Warriors
early. Schumacher pitched four innings, allowing only one hit and
striking out five. Freshman Rachel Brenneman (Cheshire, Conn.) came
in for Schumacher to pitch the fifth inning and promptly sat Webber
down in order. Freshman Ashley East (Pace, Fla.) hit her first
collegiate home run in the fourth inning with two runners on base.
She finished the game 2-3 with four RBI.
'
Rollins
ended the game in the bottom of the fifth as junior Victoria
Rudolph (Titusville, Fla.) came to the plate for the first time as
a Tar with runners on second and third and calmly singled to left
field, sending the game ending run across home plate.
'
Senior
outfielder Monica Spratley had the lone hit on the evening for the
Warriors as she singled up the middle to open the fourth inning,
only to be stranded on second base when the inning was over. Junior
pitcher Christie Barber was the losing pitcher for Webber. She
pitched 3.2 innings, giving up four hits and six runs.

The
Tars will look to continue their dominate ways when they travel to
West Palm Beach, Fla. on Saturday, February 4 to face the Sailfish
of Palm Beach Atlantic. The first pitch of the double header is
scheduled for 1:00 p.m.''
