BOCA RATON, Fla. (October 20, 2006) ' One
defensive lapse was the difference in a 1-0 loss for the 25th
ranked Rollins women's soccer team Friday afternoon at SSC opponent
Lynn University.' The Tars dropped to 10-4-3 overall and 3-2-3 in
the Sunshine State Conference, and the Fighting Knights improved to
7-8-1 overall and 3-5-0 in conference.
The goal came at the 61:32 mark on a Lynn free kick near the
left sideline.' Vanessa Zalis sent the kick into the penalty area,
and Rollins defender Lindsay Taylor, usually excellent on balls in
the air, misguided a header past goalkeeper Stephanie Woelfel for
an own goal.
Rollins controlled much of the first half, shown by their six
shots compared to three by Lynn, but Fighting Knights goalkeeper
Jennifer Shropshire kept the Tars off the scoreboard.' She had four
saves in the first half and one in the second.' Lynn rebounded to
take control in the second half, firing off eight shots to the
Tars' three.' Woelfel had a busy half, notching five saves after
finishing the first half with none.
Lindsay Giblin led the Tars with six shots, three of which were
on goal.' Molly Anderson led the way for the Fighting Knights with
two shots on goal and a total of five.' Also very active on offense
were Jennifer Dyer for Rollins (three shots) and Brittany Everndon
for Lynn (two shots).
