MELBOURNE , Fla. (December 3, 2005) - A swarming defense and solid play from the bench earned the Rollins women's basketball team a 74-54 victory at Florida Tech on Saturday in the Sunshine State Conference opener for both schools. The victory keeps Rollins perfect on the year as the Tars are now 8-0 overall and 1-0 in SSC play.

'

Senior Joslyn Giles ( Winter Haven , Fla. ) had a career game, tying her all-time best with 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Tars. Underclassmen Jessica Barker ( Orange City , Fla. ) and Rachael Workman ( Northampton , Mass. ) netted 10 points apiece off the bench with Larissa McDonough ( Ormond Beach , Fla. ) adding seven points and seven boards.

'

Florida Tech (6-2, 0-1) took a 3-2 lead two minutes into the game, but that would be their only advantage of the night as Giles scored on the Tars next trip down the floor to put the visitors up for good. The Tars lead grew to double digits at the 10 minute mark as Randi Weiss ( Kissimmee , Fla. ) connected on a jumper to make the score 18-7. Rollins kept pounding the ball down low and running fresh bodies into the action to grab a 37-25 lead heading into the locker room.

'

Giles netted 12 in the period, which included a 6-10 mark from the free throw line. The Tars shot 50 percent (15-30) from the floor while holding the Panthers to just 38 percent (10-26) and generating 15 Tech turnovers.

'

Rollins couldn't shake Florida Tech for the first 10 minutes of the second half as the Panthers held the Tars to just a 10 point lead early in the period. Coach Glenn Wilkes, Jr. kept the full court press on and wore down the Tech guards as Rollins began to pull away. Weiss nailed a three pointer with 9:50 to go to put the visitors up 53-36 and seal the deal as Rollins used their depth to cruise to the 20 point win.

'

Tenisha Chase paced the Panthers, pouring in 15 points with Danise Fequiere adding 12 off the bench.

'

After a whirlwind first month of the season, the Tars will take is easy in December as they have just one more game before the New Year. Rollins will travel to Milledgeville , Georgia for a match-up with Georgia College on Monday, December 12 at 4 p.m.
