Tars Fall Short Against Cougars

FINAL SCORE:
Rollins (1-2-0) – 0
Colorado Christian (3-2-0) – 1

Lakewood, Colo. (September 12, 2017) – The Tars would open up their second straight road trip of the season against the Colorado Christian Cougars at Trailblazer stadium. This matchup marks the first ever meeting between the two programs, and just the third game of the campaign for the Tars, who would fall in a hard-fought contest to the Cougars,1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half:
Both teams came out looking to find their rhythm in the early parts of the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Rowswell would make three first half saves to keep the score knotted at 0-0. However, it would be the Tars who would have the better opportunities in the opening half, as the Cougars were able to clear two Tars shots off of the goal line to keep the score at 0-0 going into the half. Heading into the half, the Tars had already earned seven corners on the night, while the cougars were only able to generate two.

Second Half: The Tars and the Cougars continued right back where they both left off at the end of the first half, with both teams battling to find the opening goal. The Tars had plenty of good opportunities to score, but their shots were just not finding the back of the net. It would be the Cougars who would break the deadlock in the 63rd minute, off of a Lauren Cardoza shot that found the bottom corner. Karli Wilson was credited with the lone assist. The Tars would continue to press and try to find the tying goal late in the game, with a couple of chances that went just over the bar. However, despite the Tars resilient efforts and a couple of late dangerous free-kicks, they were not able to find the late equalizer.

NOTES:

  • Rollins held the advantage on corner kicks, 11-4
  • For the third straight game, Rollins has tallied double digit shots
  • There were no cards shown in the game, but the Cougars recorded 15 fouls, to only the Tars 13
