PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (May 14, 2018) – Under perfect weather on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, the Tars women's rowing team put a cap on the season at the 2018 Dad Vail Regatta.
The DII Varsity 4 was the only Tars boat to make the Grand Final, taking fifth. The crew of Samantha Talucci, Lizzie Berry, Kelly Farrell, Grace Wamester, and Cameron Robinson was second in the heats, finishing just four seconds behind Jefferson, but beating third-place Mercyhurst by 12 seconds.
In the Grand Final, the entire field was even through 400 meters before the top crews began moving away. The Tars and Jefferson were in a back and forth battle from that point until the 400 meters to go mark where the boats traded half seat leads. Right before the line, Jefferson made a move and Rollins couldn't counter, finishing four seconds behind the Jefferson boat.
The women's Novice 4 of Samantha Bates, Nicole Hubert, Kaela Gaylord, Emilia Castillo, and Cristina Toppin took third in the petite finals, placing them ninth of the 17 crews entered. The boat made a late push in the final to beat MIT by two seconds.
Rachel Wasserman, Ashley Kinsley, Nicole Vitt, Alisha Koti, and Alyssa Rabade made up the Tars JV4 and grabbed a fifth place finish in the petite final; two seconds behind Fordham and 5.7 back of Jefferson. They held their own through the first 700 meters before gradually slipping off the pace; finishing 11th out of 21 boats.
Dad Vail's concludes the 2018 spring racing season.
