Rollins Earns Preseason Ranking by Nike/US Lacrosse for Third Straight Season

SPARKS, Md. (January 11, 2018) – With their 2018 campaign on the horizon, the Rollins women's lacrosse team has been tabbed at No. 14 on the Nike/US Lacrosse Division II Preseason Top 20, organization officials announced Thursday.

The Tars, who wrapped up their 2017 slate sitting 14th on the final Nike/US Lacrosse DII Top 20 poll of the year, will look to climb the ranks as the new season kicks off.  Rollins, who sat as high as sixth in 2017, welcomes back 23 faces from last year's squad and will debut 13 new players for their 11th season of action.

The Sunshine State Conference is represented by three teams on this year's preseason rankings, led by 2017 NCAA DII Runner-Up Florida Southern, who checks in at No. 2.  Florida Tech, who wrapped up 2017 as an NCAA DII Tournament Quarterfinalist, gets the nod at No. 8 on this year's preseason poll.

Reigning Division II National Champion Adelphi claimed the top spot, followed by Florida Southern at No. 2, and Lindenwood in third.  Rounding out the Top Five are Le Moyne at No. 4, and Queens (NC) in at No. 5.

The Tars are set to square up against 17 different opponents throughout the regular season, with eight home, seven away, and two neutral site competitions set to take place.  Of the 17 regular season games on the docket, only one will be against a North Region opponent (Adelphi). The remaining 16 matchups will be in region contests, with the Tars squaring up against five teams from the South Atlantic Conference, two from the PSAC, two from the Gulf South Conference, one from the Conference Carolinas, and six hailing from the Sunshine State Conference.  In total, five games will be against teams ranked on this year's Nike/US Lacrosse DII Preseason Poll, with three opponents falling in the top five.

Rollins opens its 2018 slate against Sunshine State Conference opponent Tampa on Saturday, February 10.  The Tars take on the Spartans on the road, matching up against UT in their season opener for the fifth straight season.  The Tars hold onto a 5-0 series record against the Spartans.
