Tars Reel In Sharks to Open Spring Break

No. 14 Rollins – 5
No. 19 Hawaii Pacific – 3 

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (March 11, 2018) – The No. 14 Tars took a top-20 showdown from No. 19 Hawaii Pacific to start their schedule in Las Vegas.  With the win Rollins moves to .500 on the season, at 5-5.  The Sharks fall to 0-6 in the 2018 campaign. 

Rollins took two of the three doubles matches to take the 2-1 lead after team play.  Nicolo De Fraia and Guillermo De Nicolas-Ruiz upset the No. 20 doubles partnership in the nation Maxime Gayte and Benjamin Loccisano 8-6.  Ziad Melhaoui and Atakan Gezer improve to 5-1 together on the year with a second position win, 8-5. 

De Fraia picked up the Tars' first singles win of the day, moving his individual record to 8-2 on the year.  The junior defeated the No. 11 player in the West Region, Gayte, in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5.  Nicolas-Ruiz, who ranks as the No. 19 player in the country won a battle of ranked players when sailed by No. 27 Loccisano, 7-5, 6-2.  Gezer clinched the match for Rollins, earning the fifth point with with an upset victory over No. 46 Gerardo Irrarrazabal.  Frederick Danielson's sixth court match went unfinished. 

The Tars continue their Las Vegas trip with another top-20 match up tomorrow, Monday, March 20, against Midwestern State.  First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
