WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 10, 2018) – All nine starters reached base and Brad Case tossed a gem in his final start of the season as Rollins beat Florida Tech 8-3 Thursday in the Sunshine State Conference series opener between the two rivals.

The Tars move to 19-28 overall and 7-21 in conference play after their second-straight win while Tech drops to 19-30, 11-17 SSC.

Case picked up the victory in six solid innings, scattering six hits and allowing two runs with three strikeouts. Whit Drennan tossed two solid innings in relief and Caleb Jakes closed out the win for the Tars with a perfect ninth.

Cameron Meehan and Nick Breen both hit 2-4 with two RBI to lead the Tars. Nick Santucci also knocked in a run as six different players recorded one hit each.

Sam Crocker took the loss for Florida Tech, allowing four runs on five hits in two innings of work. Jacob Buser and Raul Quintero both went 2-3 at the place to lead the Panthers offense.

Rollins got right down to business in the first with Meehan reaching on a single, stealing second and then coming home on a Breen RBI single.

Another run came in the second on Meehan hitting a deep sac fly to center that scored Grant Ashline and put Rollins up 2-0.

Tech scored one in the third to cut the Tars lead in half, but Rollins plated two in the bottom of the third to grab a 4-1 advantage. Santucci knocked in Breen and Isiah Russell plated Bryce Peterson to close the frame.

Jacob Buser led off the FIT sixth with a double and eventually scored on a Vincenzo Catanza sac fly.

The Tars blew the game open in the bottom of the sixth with four runs to jump in front 8-2. Russell led off the big inning with a ground rule double to right and was followed by an Ashline walk and Sam LaFontaine sac bunt to move them over. After Brendan Brundage walked to lead the bases, Meehan singled to the pitcher, but his throw attempt to first sailed into foul territory and allowed Russell, Ashline and Brundage to all score. Breen provided the exclamation point with an RBI double to score Meehan.

Tech scored one run off Drennan in the eighth, but that would be as close as the Panthers would get the rest of the way.

Rollins and Florida Tech will play the second game of their three-game set on Friday, May 11 with first pitch set for 1 p.m. at Alfond Stadium. Fans can follow the game live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
