The Tars are riding a six-game winning streak, and are ranked 10th in the NCBWA South Region poll after going undefeated through Baseball Week. Rollins will first welcome Ave Maria to Alfond Stadium, for a midweek clash. The Gyrenes sit at 10-19 on the year, but will be looking to get back on track after dropping their latest contest to Shawnee State, 8-11. The Tars will then turn back around and jump back into Sunshine State Conference play, where they will face off with a red-hot Palm Beach Atlantic team that has won 10 straight.
TRACKING THE TARS:
Offensively, the Tars have been getting it done as a unit in the batter's box. Seniors Nick Breen and Bryce Peterson are both batting .403, while combining for 56 hits, including 12 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, and 39 RBI. Also chipping in is Junior Brendan Brundage as the leadoff man for Rollins. The Coconut Creek, Fla. native has tallied a team high 30 hits in 81 at bats, while scoring 16 runs in the process. Brian Brooker currently ranks second on the team with six homeruns, and first in the SSC with 31 RBI so far this campaign.
The Tar's pitching staff only allowed 11 runs to score in five games during Baseball Week. Juniors Brad Case and Cameron Enck continue to lead the Tars from the hill. Case has tossed in 39.2 innings so far, dishing out 35 strikeouts, and has an ERA of 1.36. Enck leads Rollins with 44 punch outs in six starts this year, while compiling a 3.06 ERA in 32.1 innings pitched.
TRACKING THE GYRENES:
The Gyrenes are led by Tully Allen and Ryan Keegan. Allen has started in 28 games for Ave Maria, totaling 36 hits, including four doubles, one triple, one home run, and four RBI. Keegan leads the Gyrenes in RBI this season with 19 so far, while maintaining a .333 batting average and 32 hits so far. As a team, Ave Maria is batting .263 in 29 games, and has plated 126 runs.
Justin Bureau and Joe Soto have each earned two wins on the mound for the Gyrenes. Bureau has tossed in 30.2 innings, striking out 29 batters, and compiling a 2.39 ERA. Soto has made sven appearances, tossing in 8.2 innings, and registered six strikeouts. Andrew Giddens has already notched five saves this campaign to lead the team.
TRACKING THE SAILFISH:
The sailfish have won 10 straight, sit at 16-5 overall and are currently 6-0 in SSC play. Like the Tars, the Sailfish are ranked in the latest South Region poll, coming in at fifth. Connor Rowland has paced the Sailfish offensively, generating a .326 batting average to go along with a team leading 29 hits this season. Kyle Simmon leads Palm Beach with 22 RBI, as well as a team leading six home runs. Riley Herold has also chipped in with 21 RBI, and 5 home runs, while tallying a .263 batting average.
Mikhail Cazenave has already conquered seven wins this season on the mound for the Sailfish. The redshirt senior has managed to keep a 1.69 ERA, while throwing one complete game. He has also tossed 53 strikeouts in 48 innings of play. Johnnie Schneider is 2-1 so far this year in five starts. The Clearwater, Fla. native is first on the team with two saves.
